On February 6th, the Vikings played in their last home game of the 2008-2009 season.
On February 6th, the Vikings played in their last home game of the 2008-2009 season. The Vikings had a strong start against the Lakeland Rustlers, wanting to put on a great show for the home crowd and finish their last home game with a win. i.d. apparel player of the game Genna Flinkman distributed 12 dimes and grabbed six rebounds. Avalon Greaves and Hammer both played exceptional defense, getting four steals each. Hammer also had four assists, 11 rebounds and 11 points. Danielle O’Neill had four rebounds, two steals, one block and nine points. Jamie Sparrow played great defense with two steals and two blocks. On offense, Sparrow scored 11 points and notched two assists. Every Viking contributed in this win. The final score was 65-60 in favour of the Vikings.
On Saturday, the Vikings travelled to Lloydminster to wrestle the Rustlers yet again. This game started off slowly for the Vikings as the Rustlers took an early lead. Player of the game Natasha Nagy was hot from the outside, going four for nine from the three-point line for a total 16 points. Hammer was 100 percent from the free throw line and contributed 19 points. Even after a third quarter Vikings run, the Rustlers were still able to maintain the lead. The Vikings ended up on the wrong end of the final score, 58-72. This loss ended the Vikings’ three game win streak. This weekend, the Vikings will board the bus to Grande Prairie to take on the Wolves in their last two games of the season.
