Please join us at 1:30 in the Chapel of the Faith & Life building on Augustana Campus to celebrate the recipient of the Battle River School Division’s 2012 Literacy Award!

From Camrose Adult Learning Council

On June 6th, Blain Fowler will be presented with the Camrose & Area Adult Learning Council’s 2012 Literacy award for his role in bringing the Reading University program to Camrose.

Reading University, originally developed in the U.S.A., is an intensive one-month reading program designed to inspire elementary school aged students to enhance their reading skills by attending an enjoyable summer learning experience.

Blain Fowler was instrumental in developing a partnership between the Battle River Community Foundation, the Battle River School Division, and the University of Alberta Augustana Campus which provides the funding, manpower, and facility required for this innovative program. The summer of 2012 will host the fourth session of Reading University in Camrose.

Blain Fowler will be honored for this outstanding achievement and be presented with the 2012 Literacy Award on June 6, 2012 from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. in a celebration which will take place in the Chapel of the Augustana Campus Faith & Life Centre.

A short program will be followed by refreshments and a chance to congratulate Blain in person. We invite all interested community members to attend this event and support literacy and learning in our community. There is no cost to attend and no pre-registration is required. Tours of the new Augustana Library will be available before and after the event.

Each year the Camrose and Area Adult Learning Council accepts nominations for individuals who have made a significant contribution or provided exceptional service to literacy in Camrose and/or surrounding area.

Previous recipients of the annual Literacy Award include other well known advocates of literacy such as Deborah Morgan, Finola Hackett, Berdie Fowler, Janice DePaoli, David Samm, and Sharilyn Cook.
