A group of high school students and chaperones from Hong Kong will visit Camrose from Sunday, July 1 to Monday, July 9. During their stay, they will stay on the University of Alberta’s Augustana Campus and check out the Canada Day celebrations, the Stoney Creek Centre, Camrose Composite High School and an open First Nations event on Friday afternoon!

The visit was organized by the Alberta Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada in partnership with Augustana Campus. The relationship is based on Augustana’s Lutheran heritage and is an effort to promote Camrose and the University to these students in the hope that they will return as students in the future. They will be participating in conversational English training in the mornings and experiencing various other activities in the afternoon. Four former Augustana students – who have completed their education degrees and taught overseas – will be returning to campus to facilitate the morning ESL courses and participate with the visitors in the afternoon activities.

The students will visit Bethany Group Homes and the Bill Fowler Centre on Monday. They will also share the tables of 20 local families, where they will enjoy a home-cooked meal far from home.

If you see the group, please feel free to welcome them to Camrose and campus. Most of the students would treasure the opportunity to practice their English, and we want to give the best impression of our city and our community.

Many local organizations were involved in bringing these students to Camrose, and special recognition goes to the Camrose Wildlife and Stewardship Society, the Camrose Arts Society and Battle River School Division as well as Augustana staff, faculty, students and alumni. All are welcome to the First Nations event on Augustana Campus, Friday at 3:00 pm. This was sponsored by the Camrose & District Family Thrift Shop, Camrose Rotary and the Swans & Roses Lions Club.
