On Sunday, May 31, Augustana Faculty celebrated our Spring 2015 Convocation. Over 1,000 guests – including graduates and their families, friends, students, faculty, staff and community members – gathered to mark this amazing milestone and to wish our graduates the best as they move on to embrace the next phase of their lives.

The day began with our annual Baccalaureate Worship Service, presided over for the last time by retiring Chaplaincy Assistant Robyn Simpson Mohr. At a special luncheon, we celebrated Augustana’s Medal Winners – the students with the highest averages in each of the four departments at Augustana – and our Honourable Degree Recipient, Dr. Russell Schnell.

Convocation began at 2:30 pm. Several dignitaries offered thoughts to the graduating Class of 2015: University of Alberta President Indira Samarasekera gave her final address at Augustana before she steps down July 1. Camrose-Wetaskiwin MLA Bruce Hinkley gave his first address following the May election. In his speech, our Honourary Doctorate Recipient shared moments of discovery and wisdom, eliciting genuine laughter from the listeners. Watch it here! Read the University of Alberta’s story about Dr. Schnell.

The University of Alberta’s Augustana Faculty then conferred degrees upon our 159 graduates. Following welcome from Augustana’s Grad Council representative Sandra Gawad Gad and our Dean Allen Berger, our newest alumni joined alumni hosts for a reception, the class Tree Planting and photos in the glorious weather.

Congratulations to our Class of 2015!
