Labour Attraction and Retention in a Turbulent Demographic Landscape Webinar Posted on November 10, 2014

On November 24th from 12 PM – 1 PM MST, the Battler River Alliance for Economic Development (BRAED) and Alberta Centre for Sustainable Rural Communities (ACSRC) formally launch a free webinar series. This series is meant to cut across a number of topic areas that are relevant and current to organizations and businesses in East Central Alberta and beyond, providing a new knowledge base and foundation of resources that can be accessed to improve the capacity to maintain a thriving economic and community base.

We are pleased to have Kristen Cummings as our first presenter. Kristen is an instructor with the Bachelor of Management Business Economics program at the University of Alberta – Augustana Campus and operates a successful consulting practice through which she serves as a speaker and trainer on demography, recruitment and retention, engagement and leadership.

Simulating Social Sustainability: Agent-Based Modeling of Energy Infrastructure Projects Posted on September 2, 2014

Dr. Hal Nelson (Research Associate Professor in the Division of Politics and Economics at Claremont Graduate University) will be visiting the University of Alberta in September 2014. He will be giving two free public lectures on the North and Augustana Campuses on the Sustainable Energy Modeling Program (SEMPro), background for key SEMPro, LLC personnel, as well as their research agenda. Dr Nelson’s presentations will also explicate the design and results of the SEMPro decision support system for energy infrastructure siting. The software helps decision makers reduce infrastructure siting conflicts by identifying key concessions that project sponsors can make that reduce the negative impacts to local communities
