Last Sunday, October 27th, the Vikings biathlon team took the short bus to Edmonton to compete in the Alberta Biathlon Club’s summer biathlon race. The ankle-turning course was both challenging and entertaining. Warmer temperatures and low wind were excellent conditions for an enjoyable race.

In the open men’s category, Philip Eriksson placed first and Paul Woloschuk finished strongly in second. In the open women’s category, Kathryn Stone finished in first place, Alicia Hurley in second place, and Jytte Apel placed third. In youth women’s group, Lauren Brookes and Jennifer Paterson placed first and second, respectively. In addition to the hilarity of a race-bib mix up by Micheal Kenny, the biathletes enjoyed the attractive new red running shoes modeled by Jytte Apel. They also celebrated Kathryn’s 20th birthday. Betsy Mawdsley was pleased with her “kick butt” race, as she hit a personal best 9/10 targets.

The biathlon team is now gearing up for a snow training camp to be held sometime in the early weeks of November. Their first on-snow race will be held in Canmore, from November 29th to 30th.
