This past weekend, the Vikings women�s basketball team dropped two games to the Concordia Thunder.

This past weekend, the Vikings women’s basketball team dropped two games to the Concordia Thunder. Friday night was a fast paced game, with Concordia dominating in transition points. The Vikings battled back on the boards, out rebounding Concordia 49-33. Karla Binder played an aggressive defensive game for the Vikings and received player of the game honours, along with 15 points. Madelaine Merkel contributed with 14 rebounds and Jessie Hameister-Ries had a double-double (18 points and 13 rebounds). In the contest, Jessie was a solid six for 13 from the floor and three for five from behind the arc. The final score was 60 to 102 in favour of the Thunder.

Saturday night’s rematch was another high energy game with fast
paced action. Despite playing with a short bench, the Vikings showed heart, determination, and grit. First-year player Amy Tweedie came out with a solid performance, tallying 17 points, nine rebounds, and player of the game honours. Roommates Natasha Nagy and Jessie Hameister-Ries were also strong for the Vikings. Natasha dropped 15 points (five for seven from the floor, and two for two from three-point range) and Jessie had 16 points (four for six from three-point land) in the battle against Concordia. Despite a solid team effort, the women fell to the Thunder 73-106.
