This past weekend, the Vikings opened their regular season against a tall and veteran King’s University College team. Both games were decided by rebounding, with the Eagles leading by a large margin. In game one, Kings had 48 rebounds in comparison to Augustana’s 31. The final score favoured the Eagles by 29 points. Saskatchewan was proudly represented in the contest by Jamie Sparrow, who led the Vikings in points (18), and Amy Tweedie, who led the team in boards (seven). The player of the game was Jessie Hameister-Ries. On Saturday, the Vikings looked to rebound against the Eagles both literally and figuratively. The Vikings went on a run early in the first quarter after being more aggressive on the boards. Unfortunately, the Eagles responded with many second chance baskets. The final score was 81 to 50 for the Eagles. For her rebounding efforts, Natasha Nagy was named player of the game with five rebounds. Karla Binder contributed a team high five steals. This upcoming weekend, the Vikings will battle the Concordia Thunder at home on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
