The Vikings women faced the MacEwan Griffins this weekend. On Friday night the Vikings played at home, starting off the game with tremendous amounts of intensity. The teams battled in a close first quarter, with Allison Lundall making a buzzer beater to give the Vikings a one point lead heading into the second frame. The Vikings dominated the final three quarters, playing with confidence and heart. The lead they created would not be relinquished. The Vikings hit the floor for loose balls, rebounded aggressively and attacked at all times. A rain of threes and strong post play lead the Vikings to a 75-70 victory. Player of the game Jamie Sparrow led the way with 17 points and four rebounds. Guards Karla Binder, Alison Lundall and Natasha Nagy all contributed with 11 points each. Post players Jessie Hamiester-Ries, Madeline Merkel and Amy Tweedie lead the rebounding with ten, seven, and six rebounds respectively.

Saturday night’s game was a different story and outcome for the Vikings. The Griffins came out with fire in their home gym and established an early lead. The Vikings continued to battle throughout the night, but could not overcome the early deficit. Jamie Sparrow once again showed her veteran experience, leading the way with 29 points and nine rebounds, receiving player of the game honours once again. The final score was 99-75 in favour of the Griffins.
