The Vikings cross country running team is preparing for their trip to the CCAA Championships in Kingston, Ontario. The competition will take place on November 7th and 8th at the grounds of Fort Henry, a national historic site. The running squad has been training diligently over the last couple of weeks with some “maintenance” workouts. This week, the squad is tapering their training and has one short speed tune-up prior to the race date. On the men’s side, the Vikings will be represented at Nationals by David Arial, Joe Nusse, Philip Eriksson, Jon Skinstad, Kieran Baird, Andrew Brisbin, and Dexter MacCalder. The women representing Augustana are Kathryn Stone, Patricia Leighton, Maggie McBride, Alicia Hurley, and Reba Murphy.

The outlook prior to Nationals is positive for the cross country running team, as the men’s and women’s teams are medal contenders. The contest will be tough since the Vikings will be competing against fast runners from Ontario and Quebec. The Vikings excelled at the ACAC competitions on October 25th and are looking to finish their season on a strong note. Kieran Baird, David Arial, Kathryn Stone, and Patricia Leighton were Vikings who received medals as a result of placing in the top ten in their ACAC Grand Prix category.

In the women’s five km cross country standing, Kathryn Stone was third and Patricia Leighton finished in seventh spot. In the men’s eight km grouping, David Arial placed fourth and Kieran Baird in ninth position.

Good luck to all competitors and coaches at Nationals!
