The past weekend for Vikings hockey can be summarized by “Huge Win” and “Huge Loss.” On Friday night, the Vikings skated to a 4-3 win on the strength of two goals by leading scorer Ben Starbuck and singles by veterans Chris Dawn and Aaron Hareuther. The game was a showcase of fast-paced hockey and some big hits as both teams played a physical game. The Vikings out-skated, out-hit, out-shot, and out-hustled their guests for most of the night and it was only a couple of late powerplay goals by the Clippers that closed the gap on the scoreboard. Colin Stebner was credited with the win in goal for the hosts, as Chris Dawn raked in player of the game honors.

The rematch on Saturday afternoon was not what the "Big Viking" was looking for, as the crew from Briercrest hopped on their ship and cruised home with a weekend split in Camrose. Darcy Holfeld and Joel Chisholm scored for the much too gracious hosts. The Vikings never sustained enough constant pressure on the Clippers throughout Saturday’s contest to get their offense in gear. David Ritz was stellar in goal for the Vikings and did his part to hold his shipmates in the game and give them a chance for a weekend sweep. Unfortunately for too many of the crew, it appeared the focus was elsewhere and the Vikings winning streak came sinking to an end.

This week the Vikings hockey ship will look to be righted in a matchup with Mount Royal. The Cougars pay a visit to our land this Friday, November 21st at 7:30 p.m. The Vikings will make a return voyage to Calgary the following evening, as they look to spend a weekend feasting on Cougar meat. The Vikings will hunt down Mount Royal for fourth place in the standings of the very competitive ACAC Men’s Hockey League. Hope to see you all at the gorgeous Encana Arena this coming Friday evening. There are many comfortable seats still available and are FREE for all Augustana students! Remember, you can lay claim to the entire seat, but you’ll only need the edge of it!!
