On Saturday, the Augustana Vikings hosted the Taylor Fire, Rocky Mountain College Rams, and St. Mary’s Lightning at their home tournament. The Vikings squared off first against the always tough Lightning. The Lightning came out strong, and were able to catch the Vikings by surprise by taking game one 26-24. The Vikings were able to regroup, and won the next three games 25-15, 25-23, and 25-14. The Vikings won the match 3 – 1. Jessica Ryan was named the ID Apparel Player of the Game with her outstanding front row attacks and back row defense. In the afternoon match,the Vikings took on the Rams from Calgary. The Vikings swept the Rams 3 – 0 with scores of 25-15, 25-8, and 25-12. Christie Comeau was named the ID Apparel Player of the Game with three kills and five service aces. With this win, the Vikings secured a place in the playoffs and sit alone at first place with a perfect 10 – 0 record in league play. Next up for the Vikings is a road trip to Calgary on Saturday for another game against St. Mary’s. The Vikings will also play a rematch of last year’s gold medal game against the Olds Broncos.
