The Augustana Biathlon team had their first official races on November 29th and 30th in Canmore, Alberta. Athletes came from all over North America to compete at this North American and Alberta Cup Race weekend. Thanks to the heroic snow-making of the Canmore Nordic Centre, athletes skied a sprint and an individual race on a course of entirely machine-made snow.

In addition to impressive results, the team had a high shooting average throughout the weekend, with the help of top guns Jytte Apel, Jodi Miller, Alicia Hurley, Paul Woloschuk, Sara Jackson, Mike Kenny, Philip Eriksson, and Chantal Prosser.

Balmy, above zero weather, fast skis and stiff competition (especially in the Men’s, Youth Men’s and Women’s categories) provided for an exciting opener to the biathlon race season. Says Kathryn Stone, “It’s nice to be back on snow!”
