The winter continues to throw curve balls at the Nordic skiing community. The Ole Uffda Loppet was cancelled due to cold temperatures and last week rain played havoc on the valley trails. Three of the Vikings ski team raced in Vermilion on the weekend at the Beckie Scott Loppet. Despite the warm temperatures, Vermillion had great trail conditions with -6oC and crusty snow. The Vikings put in strong performances in the 10 km. In the open men’s category, Jon Skinstad pulled off the win in a time of 28:35 and Kieran Baird placed second in 29:26. Andy Brisbin completed the hat trick with a third place finish and a time of 29:41.

Andy and Kieran then travelled on to Saskatchewan for a SaskCup competition in North Battleford. At the time of this article no results were available. This weekend the team will be travelling to Red Deer for the Bob Johnstone Loppet. This will be a good lead up to the Canadian Birkebeiner the following weekend in Strathcona.
