The last weekend of the season tipped off in Grande Prairie on Friday, February 13th. It was a close game right from the start, with the Vikings down by one point heading into the second quarter. During the second frame the Wolves went on a run, scoring 26 points to the Vikings’ 16. The second half saw the Vikings come back with focused defence. Hammer was a huge impact player for the Vikings in the second half, leading the team with a double double of 18 points and 11 rebounds. Veteran Viking Megan Hogendoorn played terrific defence. Karla Binder sparked a third quarter run with a three pointer. Jamie Sparrow scored 14 points and consistently contributed on offense and defence while showing great senior leadership on the floor. Genna Flinkman also showed great leadership, distributed four assists, scored six points, and grabbed two steals. Natasha Nagy had 10 points and five rebounds. The final score was 73 to 60 for the Wolves.
Saturday’s rematch saw the Vikings start off sluggishly, allowing the Wolves to win the first quarter 21 to 8. The Vikings won the following two quarters before running out of steam in the fourth. Megan Hogendoorn had 14 points and six steals and provided great leadership on the floor. Avalon Greaves received player of the game for her nine points and seven rebounds. Hammer finished with seven rebounds and seven points. The final score was 57 to 74 for the Wolves.
