Induction of the 1974-75 Vikings Hockey Team into the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame

The University of Alberta’s Augustana Campus is pleased to announce the induction of the 1974-75 Vikings Hockey Team into the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame on June 13th in Red Deer, AB.

The team made history when they won the first Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships. Their win also marked the first time a team of any kind from Camrose became National Champions.

Viewed as the underdogs, the ’74-’75 Vikings Hockey Team began their journey to the national championships by posting a record 20-3-1 at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Association Championships. They became the 4 West Champions outscoring their opponents 27-1.

The team also paved the way for the future Viking Cup when general manager, LeRoy Johnson, and head coach, Joe Voytechek, took the team on an inaugural international tour. Playing games in Europe, the team left an impression with a record of 10 wins and 2 losses.

The team will be honoured on June 13th during the Hockey Alberta Awards Gala. For more information about the gala event, as well as a tour of the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame Gallery earlier in the day, please contact:
