Augustana set to celebrate Twenty-fifth Convocation this weekend

Augustana Campus will celebrate the convocation of 152 graduates this weekend, beginning with a banquet on Saturday, May 30th. The Twenty-fifth Annual Convocation for the conferring of degrees will take place on Sunday at 2:30 p.m., followed by the traditional tree-planting.

Bringing the convocation address is Chancellor Linda Hughes, a retired Alberta business executive who has distinguished herself as an important community leader, an active volunteer, and a champion of Edmonton and northern Alberta. She has served on several professional and community boards including a term as the Chair of the board of the United Way of the Alberta Capital Region; and volunteers her time with many other community organizations including the Winspear Fund; the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute; Norquest College; and the University of Alberta.

Graduating student, Lesley Jensen, will sing the national anthem. Lesley was part of Augustana’s first full opera production, as well as a participant in the New York Operatic adventure trip this past term.

As well, an Elder will be honouring the academic accomplishments of Aboriginal graduates with an Eagle Feather Ceremony.
