Augustana Women’s Basketball is pleased to announce the addition of Torey Hill for the 2010-2011 ACAC basketball season. Torey currently attends Viking High School and is coached by Jaymie Reinhart. Since entering high school, Torey has been the Most Valuable player of her High School in every season. She led the team in scoring in 2007 and 2008. She was an All-Star player at Augustana’s inaugural All-Star Tournament last spring and won the Most Valuable Player award.
Torey has competed on elite summer teams. In 2009, she competed on a team coached by Ron Hopkins. The team travelled to Las Vegas winning second in “The Main Event” and third in “The National Youth Championships”. This was the highest placing a Canadian women’s team had achieved in both tournaments.
Torey’s future career goals are to work as a physiotherapist or within the field of physical education. Torey is looking to obtain her Bachelor of Science with a Major in Physical Education at Augustana. She hopes to pursue a Masters in Physical Therapy, a program which is available at Augustana in the fall of 2010.
Torey grew up on a farm not far from Viking and was recruited by the University of Calgary and Red Deer College before she committed to Augustana. She looks forward to learning on and off the basketball court at Augustana’s small campus.
Leanne Shenton, Head Coach of Women’s Basketball, comments: “We look forward to having Torey join our team next year. Torey’s ability to rebound hard and finish strong make her a great addition to our squad.” The coaching staff is also excited about building into talent in the local area. Heidi Marcinkoski, Assistant Coach, notes that “We are thrilled Torey has decided to stay close to home while pursuing her athletic goals at Augustana.”
