The women’s volleyball team avenged their two losses this season by beating both teams in route to repeating as ACAL champs.

They began their mission on Friday against the Olds Broncos, sweeping them off the court 3-0. After a long wait the next day, due to a pair of very close bronze medal matches, the girls faced off against the Concordia Thunder, the first team to finish ahead of Augustana in regular season play in sometime. It was without a doubt the match of the year for the women’s side of the league, with the Vikings drawing first blood by taking the first set 25-23. Concordia responded by winning the next two sets 25-21 and 27-25. However, the Vikings wouldn’t take no for an answer and rebounded to take fourth set 26-24. The set was a nail biter, as both teams had match point but were unable to convert. Finally, with the score at 17-16, first year middle Mackenzie McConnell sent the ball to the floor, giving Augustana the five set win. It was a great team effort for the Vikings, as every player on the floor contributed to the win.

Meredith Carlson and Jessica Ryan, who both shined all weekend, were named to the First Team All Conference Squad. This was the ninth and last league championship for Coach Jordana Tigchelaar, who is retiring after this season. The women now prepare for Western Canadian’s, which shall take place in Saskatoon, November 27-28.
