The Third Recital of the Steinway Inaugural Series – The Karl Schwonik Jazz Quartet on their “Visions From the Farm” Tour. Featuring Karl Schwonik (drums), Chris Andrew (piano), Kodi Hutchinson (bass) and Brent Mah (sax).
Chris Andrew, an award-winning musician, was a member of the Augustana piano faculty for several years teaching jazz piano and jazz ensemble courses. He has become a key player in the Alberta music scene, performing and recording with some of the who’s who of jazz. Mr. Andrew has been honoured with the CBC Galaxie Rising Star Award for his virtuosic talent.
Wetaskiwin-born Karl Schwonik is also a musician who’s won his share of acclaim. He was the recipient of the VSA Arts International Young Soloist Award and has been featured nationally on CBC Radio 2. The “Visions From The Farm” tour is supported by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the Canada Council for the Arts and Alberta Music Industry Association, and launches Schwonik’s upcoming recording by the same name.
Opening the evening is the C.C.H.S. Jazz Combo under the guidance of Tom Spila (PJ Bailey, trumpet; Cody Brown, alto sax; Ryan Nagy, tenor sax; Aaron Mokry, trombone; Brad Wills, piano; Joshua Labrecque, bass guitar; Victoria Carlson, drums.)
