Every hockey team needs at least one sparkplug, someone who will provide energy and get things rolling. Richard Dupre is that kind of player for the Augustana Vikings. Despite having a smaller build than the average player, Dupre is now in his third year of ACAC competition and has played a key part in the growth of Augustana’s program. In fourteen games this season the 5’9 center has potted five goals, one assist, and nineteen penalty minutes as well as being a constant thorn in the opponent’s side. Life at Augustana, however, has been about more than just hockey.
“I’ve loved going to school here in Camrose,” says, Dupre, “Being able to talk to professors one on one has been awesome.”
Dupre and the rest of the Vikings hockey team can be seen in action again this weekend as they take on the Briercrest Clippers. The Friday game will be apart of the festivities for the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay.
