The Vikings dominated most the contest but had trouble finding the back of the net.

While Friday’s Torch celebration featured several memorable moments, including the lighting of the cauldron ceremony and the evening fireworks, one event that needs mention is the fantastic game between the Augustana Vikings and the Briercrest Clippers. The Vikings dominated most the contest but had trouble finding the back of the net, as Briecrest goaltender, and Camrose native, Jesse Chenard, thwarted them with save after save.

After regulation was unable to settle anything, five minutes of of furious overtime action ensued, before team scoring leader Torrie Dyck scored Augustana’s third goal, ending the contest with only seconds to go. It was a great win for the Vikings, accomplished in front of over a thousand fans.

The following day the Vikings continued their strong play by getting past Chenard early, in route to a 4-0 victory. Paul Kolida earned the shutout for the Vikings with 20 saves while Tanner VanDeSype and Aaron Hareuther both managed a goal and an assist. The weekend’s success move the Vikings back up to the fourth and final playoff position. They can be seen next against the Mount Royal Cougars on Wednesday night at 7:30 in Encana Arena.
