As the women’s basketball team’s season raps up this weekend, so does the ACAC career of veteran point guard Genna Flinkman. The fifth year student has seen the ups and downs of the last five years for Vikings basketball, but this season showcased a much stronger Vikings squad than in previous years, as they have been within a few points of upsetting several top ranked teams. Preparing the younger players for next year has been a focal point for the veteran.

“When I came back, I wanted to help maintain the sense of family that is the makeup of our team culture. And it’s been great to see all the new girls make the adjustment. Not only have they adapted to the feeling of family that we have here, they’ve all brought something different to court as well.”

Integrating into Camrose’s community has been essential to Flinkman’s decision stay all these. And she could see herself coming back one day.  “This is a great school in a great town, filled with great people,” says Flinkman, “After I eventually get my masters I could see myself coming back to Camrose to teach.”

If there is one thing that about Flinkman that she hopes that people remember her by, it is hard work.  “I hope that if I leave any impression it is that I came and worked hard every day.”
