The Vikings Hockey program is excited to announce that the Melfort Mustangs All-Star defenseman Harrison Tribble has committed to Augustana.
The U of A – Augustana Vikings Hockey program is very excited to announce that the Melfort Mustangs’ All-Star defenseman Harrison Tribble, of Carstairs, Ab., has committed to attend the Augustana Campus of the University of Alberta Camrose and play for the Vikings come September, 2010. “This is a tremendous way for our program to kick-off our recruiting this spring,” states Vikings Head Coach Blaine Gusdal. “Harrison is an extremely competitive two-way defenseman who can play an integral role on our power-play and also solidify our entire defensive unit for the next 4 to 5 years. His intensity, proven leadership, and experience in key situations are qualities that will help make Harrison an instant impact for the Vikings in the ACAC.”
Chosen as an Assistant Captain in Melfort this past season, Tribble was well known around the SJHL as one of the toughest competitors to have to play against. He spent three years patrolling the blue-line for the Mustangs, twice being named the team’s Most Spirited Player. “This is an indication of Harrison’s grit and value in relation to what he will add to our program,” comments Coach Gusdal. “He brings a level of commitment and accountability that will only benefit our future progress.” Besides being Melfort’s Most Spirited Player, Tribble was named the Mustangs’ Most Valuable Defenseman in ’09-’10 and was nominated for the Top Defenseman Award in the SJHL. He was selected to the SJHL All-Star Game and finished his 20-year-old year in the top 10 for SJHL scoring, among defensemen, with 7 goals and 26 assists for 33 points in 51 games. He was also named Melfort’s Play-off MVP during the 2008-2009 season.
Tribble’s coach in Melfort for all of the past three seasons was Darrell Mann, a hockey contact that Coach Gusdal knows well from his coaching days in Saskatchewan. “Darrell Mann understands the type of character and dedication I am looking for in my recruits,” says Gusdal. “Having worked with Harrison for 3 years, Darrell strongly recommends him as a player and leader who will focus on being a successful student/athlete while here at the U of A – Augustana.”
The 5’11” and 195 lb. Tribble adds, “Being from Carstairs, this is close to home for me and that’s great for my family as well. I really feel like the Vikings are headed in the right direction and I’m very excited to be a part of it!”
