The Augustana Vikings Mens Basketball program are pleased to announce that Adam Lehners and Lee Danderfer have committed for the 2010-2011 season.
The University of Alberta – Augustana Campus and the Vikings Men’s Basketball program are pleased to announce that Adam Lehners and Lee Danderfer have committed to joining the Vikings Men’s Basketball program beginning in the 2010-2011 season. Adam and Lee have been team-mates at Grande Prairie Composite High School under the tutelage of coach Troy Sandboe and will be on the roster together wearing the red and black of Augustana.
Adam Lehners is a 6’5” forward with outside touch and a long-wing span that should have an impact immediately in the Vikings roster. Lee Danderfer is a 5’ 11” combo guard that will spend his freshman year honing his skills at the point guard spot in a mix of players behind Vikings Basketball rookie-of-the-year Tony Nguyen. “Both Adam and Lee are excellent character guys and have all the tools to be great student-leaders on the Augustana Campus.” Says head coach Dave Drabiuk. “Both of them represented Alberta at the Arctic Winter Games and were significant contributors to their team’s Gold Ulu performance. Both of them have been recognized at tournaments as MVP’s and All-Stars. They are true competitors in every sense of the word. In our Vikings All-Star weekend they both showed they are ready to play at the next level. Adam is a presence at both ends of the floor and Lee impressed our players by hitting tough shots all weekend long, then backing it up with play at the defensive end.”
Team Alberta coach Chris Bishop had this to say about the pair: “Both Adam and Lee made great contributions to Team Alberta winning gold at the Arctic Winter Games. Adam is a versatile forward at 6’5” that can shoot from out side the 3pt line and post up in the low post. He makes it hard for opposing teams to match up with him. Lee is an in your face full court defender, but can light a team up from the 3pt line as well. I wish them both of them the very best as the move forward as student athletes. “
Lee will study kinesiology and had this reply when asked why he chose Augustana: “Great atmosphere. Great people. Go Vikings!”
Adam, whose father attended the University of Alberta, will be studying in the Business Management program while attending the University of Alberta’s Augustana Campus, and had this to say about his choice; “I think Augustana is a great fit for me because it puts me in the best position to excel on and off the court.”
