The U of A – Augustana Vikings Hockey Program is very pleased to announce that Brad Bourke, of Onoway, Ab., has committed to attend university in Camrose and play for the Vikings beginning this September, 2010. Bourke is a graduate of the Prince George Spruce Kings of the BCHL where he played this past season. “I am very excited to add Brad to our Vikings line-up and, in particular, to our fine group of young defensemen,” states Vikings Head Coach Blaine Gusdal. “He has good size, three years of Junior A experience, and a tremendous skill set that will benefit him and his contributions to the future of our program.”
Chosen as an Assistant Captain in Prince George, the 6’1” and 185 lb Right Defenseman is coming off a season, which saw him play in 56 BCHL games where he scored 8 goals and added 29 assists for 37 points. Over his three years of junior in the BCHL and AJHL, Bourke has played in 164 games with impressive offensive totals of 16 goals and 72 assists for 88 points. “Brad’s skating ability and offensive skills will certainly add to our defense corps,” comments Coach Gusdal. “Plus, he’s a proven leader who has always been popular with his past teammates, so we expect he’ll fit in very well with our group over the next 4 to 5 years.”
Bourke plans on enrolling in the U of A – Augustana’s Physical Education Program with future aspirations in physiotherapy or fire fighting. Brad Bourke adds, “I chose Augustana because it’s a great school academically and the smaller university campus, where everyone knows everyone, really appeals to me. It felt like home which made my decision easy.”
