Augustana Men’s Vikings are pleased to announce that Logan Gray of Whitehorse, Yukon has committed to joining the Vikings for the 2010-11 season

Logan GrayThe University of Alberta – Augustana Campus and Vikings Men’s Basketball program are pleased to announce that Logan Gray of Whitehorse, Yukon has committed to joining the Vikings Men’s Basketball program beginning in the 2010-2011 season.

The hard-working and talented 6′5″ power forward has been a key member of his Vanier High School team, where he has enjoyed his fair share of recognition. Playing for Coach Sean McCarron, Logan has been the Vanier High School Outstanding Male Athlete in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and was recognized as a Basketball Yukon Championship All Star in 2007 and 2009. As a member of Team Yukon Logan played for outstanding coaches Tim Brady and Jamie Shaw and Logan gratefully acknowledges their role in his development as a basketball player. Logan’s Team Yukon experience saw him in a variety of National tournaments including: Western Canada Summer Games (Sherwood Park, Alberta 2007), The BlueNose Tournament (Halifax 2008), Canada Basketball Nationals (PEI, 2008), the Arctic Winter Games in 2008 and 2010 and the Canada Summer Games in PEI, 2009. In a tip of the proverbial hat to these accomplishments, Logan was selected as Basketball Yukon’s Male Athlete of the Year in 2006, 2007 and 2009.

“Logan is a very hard-working player that never takes opportunities for granted. He plays a physical style of basketball that is well-suited to the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference and I believe he will develop into a very reliable performer in the years to come,” says head coach Dave Drabiuk of the newest Viking. “Logan’s work ethic away from the court is what really sets him apart from the average high school player. With the outstanding coaching provided at his high school and from [Team Yukon coach] Jamie Shaw, Logan understands the road that lies ahead for him at this level.” Logan will join former Team Yukon team mate Tony Nguyen on the Vikings roster.
With his father graduating from University of New Brunswick, one brother graduating from Dalhousie this year and another as an honours student at the North Campus of the University of Alberta, Logan knew he had options when he chose Augustana. “I heard great things about Augustana from coach Jamie Shaw as well as friend Tony Nguyen, so when I found out that I was to become part of the Vikings community, I was so thrilled and excited. I can’t wait to start my post-secondary life at Augustana," beams Logan.

Logan’s studies will be directed towards a degree in Kinesiology and Sport Studies while attending the University of Alberta’s Augustana Campus.
