Doug Hardy named ACAC Curling Coach of the year!

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference is pleased to announce that Doug Hardy of the Augustana Vikings has been selected as the 2010-2011 ACAC Curling Coach of the Year

Augustana Vikings Curling coach Doug Hardy is well known in the curling community, which comes from coaching in the sport for 23 years.  Doug is a Level 3 certified coach and has coached at the National level four times. In that time he has taken one juvenile, two junior and one men’s team onto nationals. Doug has also has a hand in fostering a new generation of curlers though his instruction at Alberta Rocks Curling Camps for 11 years.

When Doug is not coaching he’s still very involved in curling. Doug is also a Level 3 certified Ice Technician at the Tofield Curling Club and has volunteered at many major curling events, including this years Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts held in Camrose this past January.

Doug has coached the Viking curling team for eleven years. Within that eleven years the Vikings have attended many ACAC Championships and have won a Men’s Bronze Championships medal in 2000/2001, and were Mixed Champions in 2001/2002.  This year Doug was able to coach the Vikings curling team to the top of the standings and finished out the season with a 4th place Men’s team and a Mixed ACAC Championship team.
