The Augustana Students’ Association hosted a very gentle roast of their outgoing Dean, Dr. Roger Epp, on March 29. The Faith & Life Chapel was nearly full, with students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members gathering to celebrate and skewer the first Dean of the University of Alberta’s Augustana Campus before his term expires this summer.

“Augustana offers an uncommon education within an irreplaceable community,” said Roger in his response, “and the best evidence of this is found in our students and graduates.” The Dean has been proud to represent U of A Augustana in many places across Alberta, Canada and around the world – as well as to the Camrose and university communities. “I would hate for this place to be the best-kept secret.”

“One guy in the Dean’s position can’t do much of anything,” he continued. “The truth is, all the things that have happened here was as a result of the people in this room – and those not in this room.” Roger finished by thanking the students, the SA, staff and faculty, Executive Council, the staff in the Dean’s Office, his right arm Mary-Anne Falk, and his wife, Rhonda.

At the end of his words, the crowd surged to its feet in applause and a standing ovation that went on and on. Finally, Phil ‘n the Blanks rocked out a cover of Cee-Lo Green’s Forget You, and the audience filed out into Roger’s Forum to enjoy refreshments and chat about a wonderful night.
