Don’t miss the Augustana Choir Spring Concert – a musical exploration of the elements! The concert is slated for Saturday, April 30th at 7:30 pm in the Faith & Life Chapel on Augustana Campus. This concert is the first in a series of concerts The Augustana Choir will be performing on their spring tour north.
The concert includes renaissance madrigals and motets, spirituals, a collection of African music, Eric Whitacre’s humorous Animal Crackers, and music penned by members of the acclaimed vocal ensemble Rajaton. It will showcase works from around the world, including Finland, Norway, Italy, England, Africa, the United States and Canada.
This program promises to be irresistible – to even those not normally drawn to choral performances! Who can resist the lure of the African beat, the wit of a Whitacre composition, or those emotive spirituals? Director Brendan Lord is thrilled to be taking this program on tour the first week of May through northern Alberta, British Columbia, and the North West Territories. A highlight of the trip includes an exciting charter of World War II DC-3 airplanes from Buffalo Airways, the airline featured in Discovery Channel’s Ice Pilots NWT.
Brendan Lord, originally from Camrose, conducts the Augustana Choir this year while Dr. Ardelle Ries is on sabbatical. Mr. Lord grew up locally, participated in the Camrose Composite High music program, completed his undergraduate degree at Augustana, and is now studying for the Doctor of Music degree in choral conducting at the University of Alberta north campus. In addition to directing Sangkor (Augustana’s Women’s Chorus) this year, Lord is a sessional faculty member at Augustana and Executive Director of the Alberta Choral Federation. Camrose’s own Tova Olson (percussionist) will accompany the ensemble.
Tickets for the Augustana Choir Spring Concert are available at the door and from any chorister. Tickets: $16 (adults); $12 (students & seniors); $40 (family). Available only at the door. R.A.R.E. For further information and purchase of tickets by charge card, please call 780-679-1532.
