The Augustana Choir is proud to present the tour dates for Earth, Water, Wind and Fire – A Musical Exploration of the Elements! The Augustana Choir (Brendan Lord, director) is thrilled to be traveling through northern Alberta, British Columbia, and the Northwest Territories with its tour concert program entitled Earth, Water, Wind and Fire.

The ensemble will perform their program in a number of school concerts, as well as the public concert on Wednesday, May 4 at 7:00 p.m. You are welcome to the High Level Full Gospel Church at #5 Chonkolay Drive.

This musical exploration of the elements features renaissance madrigals and motets, spirituals, a collection of African music, Eric Whitacre’s humorous Animal Crackers, and music penned by the acclaimed vocal ensemble Rajaton. The concert includes works from around the world including Finland, Norway, Italy, England, Africa, the United States and Canada. Acclaimed percussionist Tova Olson (Camrose) will accompany the group.

This program promises to be irresistible – to even those not normally drawn to choral performances! Who can resist the lure of the African beat, the wit of a Whitacre composition, or those emotive spirituals?

The Augustana Choir is one of three choirs at the Augustana Campus of the University of Alberta. The Augustana Campus is a liberal arts and sciences focused institution, and is home to approximately 1000 students studying in a variety of disciplines. A strong choral tradition at Augustana dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, and the Augustana Choir is considered to be one of Western Canada’s most successful undergraduate university choirs.

The Augustana Choir studies and performs a wide variety of quality choral literature drawn from all musical periods and styles, including recent compositions  and commissions. This year the choir has focused on the musics of South Africa, Namibia, and Kenya, having hosted African conductor and music educator Duncan Wambugu for a series of workshops this fall.
