Kelsey Lund from Worsley has committed to the Augustana women’s basketball team. Coach Leanne Shenton is thrilled to have Kelsey in a Vikings uniform next year, “Kelsey will make an immediate impact for the Vikings. She is an amazing athlete and plays basketball with a tremendous amount of heart. Kelsey is the complete student-athlete and we are thrilled that she has decided Augustana is the place where she wants to study and compete.”
Kelsey had a successful high school career on and off the court. She competed on both the basketball and volleyball court. Kelsey played for coach Danny Rossworm throughout her time in high school and has brought her team to the Provincials Championship for the past four years. She won the most valuable player for her performance in grade 11 at the Shooting Stars All Star game, her grade 11 performance in the Grande Prairie All Star game and, most recently, in grade 12 at the Augustana All Star game.
Kelsey is a well-rounded student-athlete and was able to achieve honours’ status throughout high school. Kelsey will find herself fitting in well with the Augustana Vikings and is looking forward to contributing at Augustana: “It was tough trying to decide on what I wanted to do, as I’m sure it is for everyone, (and) I’m very happy with my decision. I feel Augustana is a good fit for me since it’s a smaller campus and I come from a very small town. The girls on the team and the coaching staff made me feel very welcome as they are all great people and I look forward to becoming a part of their program!”
With the Vikings’ hard work and successful season and post-season this year, adding Kelsey will be another important piece of the puzzle to help the Vikings build for an even better 2011 – 12 season.
