The U of A – Augustana Vikings Men’s Hockey Program is pleased to announce the addition of three SJHL graduates to their roster for the start of the 2011-2012 season.
Tanner Korchinski, a three year veteran defenseman with his hometown Flin Flon Bombers, finished the past season with 3 goals and 34 assists in 55 regular season games. His 22 power play assists ranked him 2nd overall in the entire SJHL and he was nominated for the SJHL’s Most Outstanding Defenseman Award after being named the Bombers Top D-Man. Korchinski, at 6’1” and 200 lbs, was an Assistant Captain in his final year and was well-known around the SJHL as a fearless open-ice hitter. “Tanner will be a valuable addition and great asset to our defense corps,” states Vikings Head Coach Blaine Gusdal. “I am confident his stature, skill set, and experience will help make him an immediate impact.”
Joel Danyluk, a goaltender with 4 years of junior hockey experience between the SJHL and WHL, hails from Yorkton, SK and comes to the Vikings following his graduation from the Estevan Bruins. Joel was named the Bruins Community Player of the Year and also the 2011 SJHL Community Player of the Year, as well as taking home the Roger Neilson Award for Fair Play and Dedication to the Game. Danyluk brings with him a wealth of regular season and play-off experience having suited up for nearly 300 career SJHL games and winning an SJHL Championship with the La Ronge Ice Wolves in the spring of 2010. “We are very pleased and excited to add a goalie with Joel’s experience and character,” comments Coach Gusdal. “He is an honor-roll student with a tremendous track-record in play-off and big games when his competitive nature takes over.”
Dane Bonish, from Cupar, SK, spent the past two seasons with the Melville Millionaires where he played in over 100 SJHL games. He scored 7 goals and added 14 assists in 50 games this past year and graduated with the 2010-2011 Millionaires Unsung Hero Award. The 5’11” centerman is highly-regarded by his former coach, Jamie Fiesel, and Gusdal adds, “Dane characterizes the type of player we strive to add to our hockey program; he is skilled, very intelligent, and highly motivated to excel in his role. Dane will be a great compliment to the Vikings and fits in perfectly with our plans for 2011-2012.”
