Monday March 19th
6pm – 2-004, the Roger Epp Conference Room

Getting from A to B with a Bachelors Degree: How to make the most of your liberal arts degree

Faciliated by Kristen Cumming, U of A Grad, Career Development Professional, Management Consultant and sessional instructor. Participants will explore the key assets emerging from their liberal arts studies and apply those assets to their preferred future. Discussion will include strategies to distinguish yourself from the pack, networking with purpose, and exploring possible matches for you in the world of work.

Tuesday March 20th

6pm – Basement of the Forum

What is Professional Presence? Finding it for yourself

Facilitated by MBA graduate Lazina McKenzie, creator of L2 Style Consulting. Particpate in an interactive session covering such topics as: Professional/Personal Branding: What do I want future colleagues and potential employers to know me for; Professional Appearance Dos and Don’ts; Why is it important to think and build a positive profesisonal appearance and how can I start to develop this on a budget?

7:45 pm – Basement of the Forum

Interview Skills Workshop

Facilitated by Helen Nelson, Teacher and Career Development Professional. Participants will learn the basics of preparing for an interview, about several interview styles, what to do at an interview and employer expectations as well as what to do after an interview. If time allows, attendees may particpate in mock interviews.

Wednesday March 21st

6pm – Resume Writing Workshop – space is limited

Guided by Dr. Craig Peterson of the Writing Centre, you will create a resume or bring your existing resume (or curriculum vitae) to improve it. You will leave this session with a strong understanding of how to target you resume to your desired opportunties. Don’t forget to include a cover letter! Look for this session in a future series.

Thursday March 22nd

Augustana Chapel

6pm – Gen Y at Work

Facilitated by Kristen Cumming, , U of A Grad, Career Development Professional, Management Consultant and sessional instructor. The goal of this session is to provide an opportunity for employers to connect with skilled but inexperienced youth seeking employment.

Kristen will deliver a presentation to employers and job seekers about the characteristics of various generations and how they can effectively work together in the workplace. The presentation aims to facilitate discussion by increasing understanding between the generations.

Session objective: Employers will learn how to manage multiple generations in the work place and have an opportunity to meet and interview prospective candidates in an informal setting. Job seekers will have an opportunity to learn more about the potential openings in a business, and how to work successfully with other generations in the workplace.
