Vikings Hockey Goaltender Joel Danyluk has been named Male Athlete of the week by the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference, and the ACAC Hockey Online website.

The U of Alberta – Augustana Vikings rookie goaltender Joel Danyluk was called upon this past weekend to start two crucial games in his team’s quest for 2nd place and a first-round play-off bye. On Friday night at Concordia, Danyluk stopped 27 of the 28 shots he faced for a 5-1 victory.¬† At home on Saturday evening, Joel was even better as he stopped all 27 shots he faced to record his league-best 4th shut-out in a 5-0 win over the Thunder. For his efforts, Joel was named the Vikings Game Star Saturday in Camrose when the Vikings clinched 2nd place in Men’s Hockey. The 2 wins brought Joel’s season totals to 11 wins, 1 loss, 1 O.T. loss, and 1 tie. Along with his 4 shut-outs, Danyluk leads all ACAC Men’s Hockey goaltenders with a 1.85 GAA and a 0.937 Save%.

Joel, from Yorkton, Sk, is currently in his first year of a Bachelor of Science Program in Chemistry / Education.

Congratulations Joel on being named Athlete of the Week!
