The University of Alberta Mixed Chorus, under the direction of Dr. Robert de Frece, will present their 68th Annual Concert in the Faith & Life Chapel on the Augustana Campus on Saturday, March 17 at 7:30 p.m.

The concert is a tribute to Professor Richard Eaton, who directed the choir form 1947 to 1967—every concert performed by the UAMC since 1967 has included music that he introduced to the UAMC’s repertoire during his 20 years as its conductor. The program will include motets by Palestrina and Schütz, works by Canadian composers Healey Willan and Welford Russell, the soaring melodies of Ralph Vauhan Williams, and Eaton’s Three French Canadian Folk Songs, arranged for the University of Alberta Mixed Chorus in the 1950s.

The program will also include performances of Schubert’s Marche Militaire,  Leroy Anderson’s Bugler’s Holiday, and the theme from the motion picture Pirates of the Caribbean  by the U of A Faculty of Education Handbell Ringers, who have been associated with the UAMC since the group was formed by Robert de Frece in 1988. A handbell quartet will also play the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah. The concert will open with the choir and ringers combining in a stirring arrangement of Martin Luther’s well-known chorale, A Mighty Fortress Is Our God. The evening will close with a delightful medley of songs from Lionel Bart’s hit musical, Oliver!

The University of Alberta Mixed Chorus has over 125 members and has presented their annual concert in our community for a number of years.  They are always a welcome addition to the Augustana Fine Arts Calendar of Events, enjoying a warm reception from Camrose audiences at every performance.

Tickets may be purchased at the door and proceeds will go to the Augustana Choir’s spring tour to Hungary in May.
