The Vikings Wall of Fame Dinner held last night on campus was a huge success.

A packed room helped raise much needed scholarship money for the amazing Vikings athletes that represent our school and our community. It also gave Augustana and the Vikings a chance to recognize some amazing people who have been an integral part of this campus and its athletic history.

Olympic Gold Medalist Jamie Sale’s smile lit up the room, while her husband 2 time Stanley Cup Champion Craig Simpson shared his memories of his career and a special story about his 1990 Stanley Cup celebration with the Edmonton Oilers and the amazing Gordie Howe.

Bryan Trottier riveted the crowd with a thrilling speech and spent countless hours shaking hands, taking photos and signing autographs for all those in attendance.

The speakers weren’t the only highlights of the night though. The Silent Auction was littered with treasures for people to bid on. The young son of Inductee Tom Gould went home the lucky winner of the authentic autographed Gordie Howe Jersey, while Mike Rodin took home Gretzky’s autographed oilers gloves, from his Stanley Cup days in Edmonton. Another lucky winner won a two night stay and spa package on Galiano Island at the Galiano Inn and Spa, just off of Vancouver Island, donated by loyal Augustana Alum.

Dean Allen Berger was on hand to shake hands and present each inductee a special plaque to commemorate this special moment in Augustana history as the inaugural inductees into the Augustana Athletic Wall of Fame, brought the crowd to their feet more than once.

Clarence and Irvin Servold, Karel Lunde, Yvonne Visser, Dr. Garry Gibson and the 1974-75 National Championship Hockey Team made up this inaugural induction class, and their faces and contributions to Augustana will be immortalized on the Athletic Wall of Fame.
