The Vikings Hockey team looks to improve on their fourth place standing in the ACAC during this weekend’s home-and-home series versus the MacEwan Griffins.
After the first week of regular season action, the Vikings are sitting in fourth place in the middle of the pack of the ACAC Men’s Hockey league with a 1-1 record. Augustana looks to use this weekend’s match up to regain momentum lost from the first game of the season where the Vikings had a dominant 7-2 win over the visiting Portage Voyageurs. Grant MacEwan will be a challenge for the reigning ACAC Champions as the Griffins are hungry for their first win of the season.
In order to get that first win, the Griffins defence will have to contend with the well balanced offence of the Vikings. Though the Vikings only sit at 1-1, the Vikings offence has been firing all cylinders with point generation coming from all lines and the defence. In just two games, Augustana has scored 11 goals against their opponents from seven different players. The Griffins’ defence will have to help out goaltender Dallas Ungurian who has allowed 11 goals in just two games with a goals against average of 5.59. MacEwan’s offence will also have to step up their game to find ways to beat the Vikings strong goaltending from Joel Danyluk and Paul Kolida.
In week two both the Vikings and Griffins look to move up and break the log jam atop the standings with the three-way tie for first place between NAIT, SAIT and Concordia, respectively. The Vikings will travel to Grant MacEwan on Friday night for the first game of the home-and-home series at the Bill Hunter Arena at 8:15pm. Saturday night’s game will be played at 7:30pm in Camrose at the Encana Arena.
