On Wednesday, November 7, join Community Service-Learning students for the Augustana Waste Sort. The sort will be taking place all day in the Faith & Life Lounge. There will also be a small presentation in the forum beginning at 10:00am which will focus on waste diversion and outreach.

Augustana does a waste sort each semester to learn how well our recycling and waste diversion systems are working, and to understand in which areas we need change or improvement to uphold a campus-wide commitment to a sustainable existence at Augustana. Over the years this Waste Sort has shown us just how much of Augustana’s total waste could be diverted from landfill to reduce Augustana’s ecological footprint and develop alternative sustainable ways to manage waste.

This semester there are 25 students involved between the Waste Sort Community Service Learning group as well as the Waste Diversion and Outreach CSL group. At the moment we are unsure how many hours it will take to sort the waste, it depends on the contents of the waste.

The Waste Sort will be setting up around 9:00 am and should be sorting before and after chapel until late afternoon. The Waste Diversion and Outreach group will begin their presentation around 10:00 am and will be presenting in the Forum until around 4:00 pm.
