10:00 a.m. Getting from A to B with a Bachelor’s Degree: How to make the most of your liberal arts degree

Facilitated by Kristen Cumming, U of A Grad, Career Development Professional, Management Consultant and sessional instructor. Participants will explore the key assets emerging from their liberal arts studies and apply those assets to their preferred future. Discussion will include strategies to distinguish yourself from the pack, networking with purpose, and exploring possible matches for you in the world of work.

11:00 a.m. Bridging the Gap: Generations at Work

Facilitated by Kristen Cumming, U of A Grad, Career Development Professional, Management Consultant and sessional instructor. This engaging talk uses a demographic framework to illuminate the values and workplace characteristics of different generations at work. Discussion will include the unique strengths and contributions of each generation and the value of differences at work.

12:30 p.m. Brunch

1:00 p.m. Hands-On Resume Writing *space is limited*

Guided by Dr. Craig Peterson of the Writing Centre, you will create a resume or bring your existing resume (or curriculum vitae) to improve it. You will leave this session with a strong understanding of how to target your resume to your desired opportunities. Don’t forget to include a cover letter! Look for this session in a future series.

3:00 p.m. Acing the Interview

Gain an edge in your interviews by listening to the advice of the interviewers themselves. In this specific panel, you will hear from employers about how they interview, what they look for in candidates and what you can do to prepare. You will be able to pose your own questions to the panel.

Panel guests:

  • Greg Friend – Battle River School Division No. 31 ,  Manager of Human Resources
  • Colleen Vennard, Canadian Mental Health, Alberta, East Central Region, Executive Director
  • Randall Nickel, Camrose Open Door, Director

Sign up for Mock Interviews!

Participants will also have the chance to sign up for mock interviews (to be held at a later date) with CAPS staff. CAPS career advisors will simulate an interview and provide you with valuable feedback on how to improve your interview skills. Provide them with a copy of your resume/CV, cover letter and a description of the job or type of work for which you are being interviewed and they will develop targeted interview questions to make the mock interview as close to reality as possible.

Your mock interview can be taped and saved on a CD for you to keep. CDs must be picked up on the day of the consultation.

Please register to attend at the ASA Office, L1-010 or email croose@ualberta.ca. Alumni can register by emailing alumni@augustana.ca or by calling Deb Olafson at 780-679-1626. Space is limited so register today!

Brought to you by the Augustana Students’ Association and Augustana Alumni Association.
