Dean Allen Berger invited graduating students to ring the bell in Quad to celebrate their last undergraduate class!

April 11 & 12 were the last days of undergraduate classes for 184 Augustana students set to graduate in June. Dean Allen Berger invited each one to take part in a new tradition on Augustana Campus: ring the bell to celebrate your achievement!

The “Bell” is part of Augustana: Beyond a Certain Phrase, the massive three-part Centennial sculpture unveiled in Quad last summer. Students were handed their grad cap and gown, the huge hammer, and invited to chime on! Every time the bell sounded, its deep tone drifted out across campus to cheers and applause. Staff took photos for printing and presentation at the Convocation ceremony on June 2.

Take a look at some of the photos from the first grad bell ringing – you’ll spot some happy graduands, Dean Berger and even sculptor Royden Mills who stopped by to watch the new tradition!
