Ten professors and lecturers from China’s Lianhe University of Arts and Sciences are in Camrose for three weeks to study at Augustana, tour the Camrose area and make some new friends. Specializing in fields as diverse as environmental chemistry, computing science, English and Chinese literature, all are involved in their school’s English as a Second Language department. They will attend a series of lectures on second language pedagogy, educational psychology, and Canadian culture, as well as attending ESL classes at Augustana.
A number of public events have been planned during the evenings, and all are welcome to attend. The professors are eager to meet people, practice their English and learn as much as they can about our community and our culture.
30 July 7pm: Walking tour of some of Camrose’s trails
1 August 7pm: Naturescaping at the Railway Museum, hosted by the Stoney Creek Nature Centre
7 August 7pm: Nimis Kahpimotate/Sister Canoe Journey at Augustana’s Epp Conference Room
8 August: Participants may attend Music on Main with Prairie Cats or “The Flying Mammal” presentation by Dr. Doris Audet at the Stoney Creek Nature Centre
9 August: Founders’ Days
12 August: Movie Night at the Bailey
14 August 6:30 – 8pm: The visiting instructors will give a presentation on their trip, share information about their region of China and give their reflections on their experience in Canada at the Camrose Public Library
15 August: Karaoke farewell party at the Rusty Spur
We invite all Augustana students and staff, as well as Camrose and area residents, to join us for any of these public events or to welcome our guests if they meet them on campus or around the city.
