a03Nov - Choir PerformanceAlberta Youth Choir, Alberta’s honour choir for choristers between the ages of 16 and 22, will be performing a joint concert with the Augustana Choir on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at 3:00pm at the Chapel in the Augustana Campus’ K. Glen Johnson Faith and Life Centre.

AYC provides a unique opportunity for outstanding young singers from across the province to join forces in the pursuit of excellence in choral music. This year, AYC will be under the direction of renowned conductor Robert Filion from Ontario. Filion’s choirs from École sécondaire De La Salle have won multiple national championships, and his choirs are often heard on CBC Radio and Radio-Canada.The choir will perform at the Music Conference Alberta Gala Concert in Red Deer, after which it will embark upon a brief tour.

The concert in Camrose will be the final performance by AYC 2013; tickets are $18 for adults, $14 for students/seniors, and $45 for families and will be available at the door. Tickets are also available in advance from Augustana Choir members. Purchases by credit card may be directed to the Augustana Music Office at 780-679-1532.

The concert will feature an exciting selection of French and French Canadian repertoire. AYC 2013 will be performing pieces by composers including Stephen Hatfield, R. Murray Schafer, and Lionel Daunais. The Augustana Choir, conducted by Dr. Ardelle Ries, will be performing a number of pieces including James Neff’s How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place and Stephen Chatman’s Voices of Earth. The choirs will collaborate in a performance of R. Murray Schafer’s Miniwanka. Both ensembles will be joined by pianist Dr. Roger Admiral.

The Alberta Youth Choir is a program of the Alberta Choral Federation. Founded in 1972, the ACF offers province-wide programming and services to choral conductors, music educators, composers, and choristers. The ACF endeavours to nurture and inspire Alberta’s choral community through programing for conductors and choristers including Music Conference Alberta, Choralfest, Alberta Youth Choir, Alberta Children’s Choir, and workshops for choristers.
