Dr. Ardelle Ries received the Alberta Choral Federation Richard S. Eaton Award of Distinction for her outstanding contribution to choral music in Alberta.

Ardelle Ries - submittedDr. Ardelle Ries, Professor of Music at the University of Alberta Augustana Faculty, has been awarded the Alberta Choral Federation Richard S. Eaton Award of Distinction in recognition of her outstanding contribution to choral music in Alberta.

Presented annually, the award recognizes exemplary service to choral music in the Province of Alberta. Past award recipients include Dr. Leonard Ratzlaff, Professor of Music at the University of Alberta and Member of the Order of Canada; Trent Worthington, one of Alberta’s premier composers and arrangers; and Dr. Robert de Frece, director of the University of Alberta Mixed Chorus founder of the Greenwood Singers.

An Associate Professor of Music at the University of Alberta Augustana Faculty, Ardelle directs The Augustana Choir and Mannskor: Augustana’s Men’s Choir. Ardelle has conducted choirs of all ages and has sung professionally as a chorister and soprano soloist. With a strong musical and pedagogical foundation established at the Zoltán Kodály Pedagogical Institute of the Liszt Academy in Hungary, Ardelle has been on faculty as an aural musicianship specialist at the Kecskemét Kodály Conservatory, the International Kodály Seminar, Wilfrid Laurier University, the University of Calgary, and the University of Alberta Faculty of Education.

A passionate advocate for choral music education, Ardelle served on the board of the Alberta Choral Federation for a number of years, is currently an advisor for the Alberta Kodály Association, and serves on the board of directors for the International Kodály Society. She has made a lasting impact on the Alberta choral community and this award is an official recognition of her outstanding work.
