Augustana student-athletes Jennifer Paterson, Nick Lenko, Ryan Burlingame, Keely MacCullough – along with Augustana Head Biathlon Coach Lowell Niven – will participate as members of the 2013 Canadian Biathlon Team.

L02_2103“After being a part of the University of Alberta’s Augustana Biathlon Team for four years,” says Ryan Burlingame, “it feels great to be chosen to represent Canada at the World University Games in Trentino, Italy, in my last year. This will be my first time traveling overseas, and I am looking forward to seeing Northern Italy. However, I am really looking forward to traveling, competing and living with fellow varsity athletes from around the world.”

This will be Jennifer Paterson’s second appearance as a member of Team Canada at the FISU Winter Games, following her participation in the 2011 FISU Winter Games in Erzurum, Turkey.

L02_2092“I’m looking forward to participating in FISU and am honored to have the opportunity to represent Canada once again,” says Jennifer Paterson. “This being my second time attending the games, I have a good understanding of the level of competition. I know to expect that the competition will be fierce and the most important thing is to focus on my own race. By focusing on myself, I will be racing to my full potential. The games are an unbelievable experience and in a way feel like a mini-Olympics. I am thrilled that someone such as myself and the rest of the team, who attend University as a full-time students, have the opportunity to attend such a prestigious athletic event.”

Coach Lowell Niven is a lifelong Camrose resident and former Team Alberta Biathlete with the Augustana Vikings, with years of experience in the Biathlon.

The Canadian Women’s Biathlon team will be competing in the following events:
