Do you have the skills to help us grow – internationally, or in the community? Deadline next week!

Do you have the skills to help us grow?

fb-Rear-Angle-Campus-Shot-1Augustana Campus in Camrose is accepting applications for two brand new positions. Both roles seek enthusiastic, outgoing people who will build their jobs from scratch!

The first position will direct our international efforts in recruitment and institutional partnerships, while also enhancing existing supports for current international students. The second will build on the existing summer programming at Augustana, and develop our community education offerings. Both roles are intended to help increase enrolment, student retention, and diversify our revenue streams.

“In light of the recent education cutbacks,” explains Augustana Human Resources Manager Troy Burnett, “all faculties with the University of Alberta were challenged to become more entrepreneurial. These two positions were proposed to increase our revenue, but if they succeed, the result will be to increase Augustana’s profile – both locally within our community and around the world.” The positions have been funded for two years, with the possibility of renewal.

flagsThe Associate Director of International Initiatives and International Student Support position is primarily focused on growing international student enrolment, managing relationships with international universities, and providing support to existing international students. The position has a proposed end date of June 30, 2016 – with the possibility of extension – and applications are due by July 31.

“Two big opportunities exist for the Associate Director,” says Burnett. “Augustana has been envisioned by the University of Alberta as taking the lead in developing partnerships with the Canadian University in Kuwait and the Inner Mongolia Agricultural University.” Other existing Augustana partnerships include institutions in Cuba, China, and Norway.

The Program Coordinator for Summer Programs and Community Education role stays a little closer to home, expanding Augustana’s existing programs into new markets by offering opportunities that the campus is in a unique position to provide. “This is a brand new position,” says Vice Dean Anne-Marie Link. “We have a number of ideas about the kind of programs we can offer. The right person will be responsible for evaluating and delivering on the demand for what we can do.”

10415-02-232Some of the ideas being discussed include summer programs in music, athletics, science, art and poetry. Workshops or certificate courses in leadership, rural development, environmental studies and outdoor education are possibilities that draw on Augustana’s strengths and expertise. Programs could be offered all year long and might include seniors, young children, and working professionals looking for career development options. The position has a proposed end date of June 30, 2016 – with the possibility of extension – and applications are due by July 25.

What both of these new positions require, however, is the right person to develop their role. In order to make sure Augustana connects with the right people, we need your help.

“Ideally, we want to tell our alumni about these positions,” says Link. “We want to reach community partners and people who are committed to Augustana’s success. Even if they aren’t interested in the jobs themselves, they could pass on the information to others. Since the deadline to apply is in the next week, they have to move quickly – but we are hoping to get word of these positions out to as many people as possible.”
