Dr. Lalit Chawla (BSc ’91) attended Augustana before embracing his twin career goals of medicine and magic: he visits in September.

Lalit ChawlaThe University of Alberta’s Augustana Campus is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2014 Distinguished Alumni Award.

Dr. Lalit Chawla (BSc ’91) grew up in New Sarepta and attended Augustana before embracing his twin career goals of medicine and magic. He is a full time family physician in Chatham, Ontario, and serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Western Ontario in London.

Dr. Chawla incorporates his skills as a magician into his clinical practice, which has been enthusiastically adopted by other health care professionals. He has written a book, given a TEDx talk, and holds workshops all over Canada. Find out more at www.magicandmedicine.ca.

“I have always talked fondly of the great experience and knowledge I learned from Augustana,” says Dr. Chawla. “It really was the catapult for creating a great life and destiny. My family have been greatly blessed for the knowledge and opportunities Augustana has given us, and I plan to talk about how being on a smaller campus, particularly Augustana, is the advantage in succeeding in one life in all aspects, not just vocationally.”

Dr. Chawla will visit Augustana Campus for a series of talks – including an Augustana Alumni Lunch & Learn – at the end of September.
