This morning, Dean Allen Berger will welcome new students to the University of Alberta’s Augustana Campus with the now traditional Bell Ringing Ceremony. Students will gather before the Centennial Sculpture in Quad at 8:45 and be presented to the Dean. He will ring the bell to honour and mark the students’ new membership in the Augustana community, indicating that upon completion of their studies they will get to ring the bell themselves to initiate a new rite of passage.

Following the Bell Ringing Ceremony, Augustana is resurrecting an old tradition to launch the new school year. This ceremony, which will include the faculty marching in regalia, will be an occasion to welcome new students, to formally invest new faculty, and to celebrate Augustana’s mission and core values. Primarily directed at our new students, we hope that returning students will attend.

Augustana will wrap up the morning with a community barbecue, an Alumni photo booth and, if all goes well, music from Quarantino – a band made up of Augustana faculty members!
