There are so many reasons to celebrate the upcoming semester with Vikings Athletics. We have made a torrent of announcements in the last few months, so let’s collect them all so you can start planning your schedule!

Vikings Golf Tournament Fundraiser

Register singly or sign up your team for the annual Vikings Golf Tournament, in support of the Brett Binder Scholarship Fund.

Awarded to student-athletes with superior academic standing entering, transferring, or continuing in an undergraduate degree program at Augustana Faculty who are or will be members of any Augustana varsity sports team. Recipients will be selected on the basis of the level of excellence shown in their sport, the potential shown to develop as a significant contributor to the athletics program, contributions made to their sport on and off the field as determined by the head coach; academic standing, and demonstrated leadership.

New Face with Women’s Basketball

Leanne Shenton is currently on leave for personal reasons from her position as Head Coach of Women’s Basketball and from her teaching duties. The University of Alberta – Augustana Campus Athletics Program has hired Ms. Kelly Lyons to fill the role of Acting Head Coach for the 2014-2015 season.

Kelly earned a Master’s Degree in Physical Education and Sports Psychology from the University of Alberta, and has played basketball at Division 1 NCAA and the CIS level for both Carleton University and the University of Alberta. While at the U of A, she led her team as Captain for two seasons.

Kelly has served as Head Coach of the U-14 Junior Pandas Basketball team and is involved with the Centre for Performance of Basketball Alberta’s Development Team. In addition, she has taught Introduction to Basketball physical activity courses for the University of Alberta.

Team Tryouts

Athletes interested in the brand new Augustana Vikings programs are encouraged to contact the respective team’s Head Coach for information prior to tryouts. All first time try-out participants must complete the mandatory Athlete Medical & Insurance forms prior to training or tryouts.

Vikings Crew

Vikings Athletics is proud to have a large complement of enthusiastic hourly event staff known as the “Vikes Crew”. This group of mostly student-staff take on all responsibilities of game day staging for various Athletics Events throughout the season. Here’s a great opportunity to earn money as a student while gaining valuable on-the-job leadership experience.
