Carmina Burana bursts out in Camrose’s new Performing Arts Centre

a05Mar - Carmina BuranaOn Thursday, March 5, the University of Alberta Augustana Choirs, the Camrose Camerata, and the Edmonton Youth Choir will create a 170-person ensemble to present Carl Orff’s thrilling masterpiece, Carmina Burana, in the new Jeanne & Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre in Camrose. The performance begins at 7:30pm. Tickets range from $20 – $38 and are available at the box office by calling (780) 608-2922, or online at www.CamroseLive.ca.

The collaboration of The Augustana Choir, Mannskor: Augustana’s Men’s Choir, Sangkor: Augustana’s Women’s Choir, and the Camrose Camerata demonstrate the rich and vibrant choral tradition in Camrose. The choirs will be joined by well-known Alberta musicians: the Edmonton Youth Choir; soloists Kathleen Corcoran, Roderick Bryce, and Timothy Shantz; pianists, Dr. Roger Admiral and Dr. Leanne Regehr; conductor, Dr. John Wiebe; and the Orion Percussion Ensemble.

Dr. John Wiebe says, “Classical music is alive and well in central Alberta. These 170 singers and instrumentalists are going to astonish you with the intensity and passion they bring to this music. Orff’s Carmina Burana is full of pulsing rhythms, delicate melodies, irreverence and humour – perfect for a party, a big party.”

To help encourage the merrymaking that Carmina Burana is known for, the choirs have also joined with the Stockmen’s Chophouse in Camrose to present a Dinner-Concert ticket option. Dinner-Concert tickets are $75 and are available through the Jeanne & Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre box office. The Norsemen Brewing Co., Camrose, will provide appropriate barley inspired beverages at a cash bar before the concert and at the intermission to aid in the audience understanding and enjoyment of this concert.
